Harm Reduction Dashboard

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department (ZMCHD) and its Harm Reduction and Overdose Team is working to bring awareness to accidental overdose deaths and suicide fatalities in Muskingum County. Harm reduction aims to:

• Educate the public about these preventable deaths and communicate trends in data
• Promote initiatives and collaborate with programs with a focus on mental health and/or substance use disorder services
• Assist community members struggling with mental health and/or substance use

Instructions for navigating the dashboard:

• Use the plus (+) or minus (-) icons to show or hide graphs/data associated with each item
• "Containers" are categories of information that will be labeled as: (R) Results, (P) Programs, (S) Strategies
  • We measure progress in these categories using: (I) Indicators and (PM) Performance Measures
• If there is a page icon next to an item,    , it can be clicked on to bring up further information such as: What we do?, Who we serve?, and How we impact?

Regarding data from the Ohio Department of Health data warehouse/ data portal: "These data were provided by the Ohio Department of Health. The Department specifically disclaims responsibility for any analyses, interpretations or conclusions." Data from the ODH data warehouse may not reflect state or Muskingum County OFR data for a few reasons: 1. Only deaths with an 'Immediate Cause of Death' listed as an overdose were listed as overdose deaths. 2. Deaths reported as 'Natural' that had had at least one other 'Cause of Death' within hours of death were reclassified 'Overdose' 3. Cases identified for overdose fatality review are identified by the county coroner's office and the local health department's vital statistic's office. There may be discrepancies with how fatalities are recorded between the county and the state. Some deaths are reported or reclassified after the review has occurred.
