Description
The Cullowhee Community Garden is an organic garden opportunity for community members. All members of the Cullowhee Community Garden agree to not only maintain their garden plots organically but to also donate at least half of their produce to the community. Progress in 2025
Following flooding from Hurricane Helene in October 2024, the Cullowhee Community Garden thrived in 2025! Garden members donated 1,486 pounds of organic produce to community members in need this year. Donations are taken to local organizations such as United Christian Ministries and The Community Table where they are available at no cost to community members. Through support from the Great Smokies Health Foundation additional funding was provided following Hurricane Helene to assist with recovery efforts to get the garden back into a workable space and providing necessary tools for both members and volunteers. 416 volunteers donated 1,090 hours of service, many of the volunteers were students from Western Carolina University (WCU).
