Description
The Fitness Center Taskforce was identified by the Health Director as an action, that when combined with other actions in our community, that has a reasonable chance of making a difference in health comorbidities in our community. This is an ongoing taskforce made up of stakeholders in our community.
This taskforce meets quarterly to get help get a fitness center in Graham County.
The priority population/customers for this taskforce is the general population of Graham County and aims to make a difference at the individual level. Implementation will takes place at Graham County Health Department.
Progress in 2025
The Fitness Center Taskforce as been paused at this time due to the County audit that is being held. Once that is done and the County finances are reviewed, the goal is for this to continue so that we may get a much needed Fitness Center in Graham County. This is a much needed service for our county.
The Fitness Center Taskforce met a few times this year. We are in the process of writing grants for funding, getting donations, and talking to funders who might be interested in helping Graham County get a fitness center. This is a need that the community has needed for many years. On many surveys over the years, when asked how to improve health in Graham County, a majority of the community always writes in a fitness center. We had a preliminary draft of what the fitness center could look like. The taskforce has put in their input on what is needed in the fitness center (i.e. pool, weight rooms, community room, fitness track, cardio room, showers, sauna, possibly even a small bowling facility). Due to being without a Health Director at this time, and having an interim director, the fitness center taskforce has not met. We hope to meet again in the near future. Also, due to no Health Director, there is no data at this time. When that data is found, it will be entered into the performance measure.
