What We Do
These programs support Housing Authority residents to maintain a community garden. This increases opportunities to provide citizens with the products to start the garden and residents maintain the garden space. The produce from the garden is available to all housing authority residents. The goal is to reduce food insecurity for vulnerable residents. In addition, residents receive recipe/cooking magazines to help them prepare healthy meals.
Who We Serve
The goal is to serve low-income citizens and seniors who live in the housing authority communities. All residents who reside in the development have access to the produce. Also, senior residents receive produce to help reduce food insecurity at the end of the month.
How We Impact
Overall, the purpose is to increase resources in our communities for those with limited resources and access.
Progress in 2023
-There were 650 impacted by access to community gardens at the Rocky Mount Housing Authority.
-DEPC worked with the Rocky Mount Housing Authority to incorporate healthy eating information in regular mailings to residents, that provide education about the produce grown in NC and their community garden.
