Carteret S.P.E.A.K. has been a vital source of support for survivors of sexual assault for over 35 years. Founded in 1986, the center is dedicated to empowering individuals who have experienced trauma and helping them heal.
The center offers a variety of services, including:
- 24/7 Crisis Hotline: Immediate support available at any time.
- Compassionate Counseling: Short- and long-term therapy to assist survivors in their healing process.
- Advocacy: Support through medical and legal procedures, ensuring survivors' voices are heard.
- Victim Compensation Assistance: Help navigating the process to secure the resources survivors are entitled to.
In addition to direct services, the center works to prevent future assaults and challenge harmful societal norms through:
- Community Education: Raising awareness about sexual violence and promoting understanding.
- Prevention Programs: Empowering individuals and communities to create safer environments.
- Collaboration: Partnering with other organizations to build a fairer, more equitable society.
The CCRC program partners with other agencies to sponsor community awareness events and serves people in Carteret County and surrounding areas. Through these efforts, the Carteret County Rape Crisis Center remains a crucial resource for survivors, offering support, advocacy, and education to help create a safer and more just community.
Progress in 2021-2023 Cycle
During April 2023 and 2024, Carteret county Health Department partnered with Carteret S.P.E.A.K. formerly known as County Rape Crisis, Carteret Community College, and Carteret Domestic Violence Program to provide awareness programs during the month of April.
Programs included a training Sexual Assault Training (SAAM) to include Human trafficking, training participants include local law enforcement and community organizations.
Also held an awareness fair at community college to include food trucks and 20 local vendors/resources with a take back the night walk .
Progress in 2025
During April 2025, Carteret County Health Department partnered with Carteret S.P.E.A.K. formerly known as County Rape Crisis, Carteret Community College, and Carteret Domestic Violence Program to provide awareness programs during the month of April. This year Carteret S.P.E. A. K held an open house awareness fair at facility and included local vendors/resources with a take back the night walk .
