2024 Monthly Quitline NC Referral's for Wayne County.

Quitline NC provides free cessation services to any NC resident who needs help quitting commercial tobacco use, which includes all tobacco products offered for sale, not tobacco used for sacred and traditional ceremonies by many American Indian tribes and communities.

The Wayne County Health Department cares about the health outcomes of those who work or do business with the health department; since tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable disease and death it is logical to provide a 100% tobacco free campus along with our 100% tobacco free county policy.

Healthy Communities is in the service of the Wayne County community with a mission to promote health to all our community members.

This program promotes health by utilizing group education and educational materials. Health Educators hold presentations addressing various topics such as nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco usage. Educational materials such as brochures and different visual aids or hands on activities are utilized to teach a range of topics to the community. 

The Quitline NC referral services are for any community members who are ready and need help with quitting the use of tobacco, whether it is chewing, dipping, smoking, or vaping. As a Quitline NC referral site, we connect individuals who want to quit tobacco with free, confidential support. When someone expresses interest in quitting, we refer them through Quitline NC, where trained coaches reach out directly to provide personalized plans, counseling and, for eligible participants, free nicotine replacement therapy. By servings as a referral site, community members have an easier access to proven resources that increase their chances of quitting successfully and improving their overall health.

In 2023, we were able to place 2 billboards in the Goldsboro area to increase promotion of the Quitline NC program to the residents of Wayne. There were 420 billboard impressions for the month of April.  Through various events in the community, we were able to promote and encourage community members to use the Quitline NC for tobacco cessation and obtained 94 referrals for the county. 

Wayne County was able to refer 119 total individuals to our Quitline NC program based off of self-identification and input from medical providers. In addition, many events and community engagement opportunities took place allowing for increased interest in services and awareness to available free resources. At these various events staff members are able to identify and register clients who meet the requirements for the program.

In 2025, we were able to continue serving Wayne County through our Quitline NC program. In addition, many events and community engagement opportunities took place allowing for increased interest in services and awareness of available free resources.
