Progress in 2022-2023
- Updated the Mitchell-Yancey Substance Abuse Resource Guide to provides the most up to date detailed list of substance use-related resources for people who are at risk for a substance use disorder, their loved ones and the providers who work with them. This was distributed throughout the medical offices, public library, faith community, and non-profit organizations. It was made available online and in hardcopy.
- Provided the annual Summer Resource Guide to guide family-friendly summer fun in Mitchell and Yancey Counties. This is a booklet of FREE friendly activities that are offered in Mitchell County with details about when and where they take place. In the guide, parents discover summer activities to keep children busy, engages, and having fun all summer long. The best part is that children are involved in the community in which they learn, play, live, and worship; building strong relationships learning social skills, and establish positive connections to the community. The skills gained through these activities help children to be healthier, happier, and more successful as they grow.
- Created a COVID-19 Community Resource Guide as our community continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The guide helped navigate real challenges in our lives. From public health concerns to economic insecurity, we had to adapt, learn, problem-solve, and work to face the very real threats this novel coronavirus presents in the days, months, and years ahead. This Resource Guide is filled with information to help someone navigate the various avenues of support—from health care to nutrition to small business assistance—as well as answer some frequently asked questions.
- Compiled a Comprehensive Community Resource Guide to document a lists and details on various services, programs, and support organizations available within a specific community, designed to help residents easily access the resources they need across different categories like healthcare, education, housing, employment, and social services, all in one place; essentially acting as a directory for community needs. The guide is designed to be easy to navigate and understand, often with clear headings and search functions to quickly find relevant resources. The guide is utilized by community members, social service providers, and community leaders and organizations.
