Healthy Beginnings is a free case management service that offers support to minority women in the community during pregnancy and up to two years after delivery. Families receive personalized care management through home visits and group educational sessions on various health topics. Our primary goal is to ensure that pregnancy, childbirth, and the early toddler years are enjoyable and healthy experiences.

Parents receive education on important health topics, including:

• Folic Acid Consumption
• Reproductive Health
• Breastfeeding
• Nutrition and Exercise
• Baby Safety
• Child Development

Healthy Beginnings serves minority women who are either pregnant or less than 60 days postpartum and live in Forsyth County. Each participant is paired with a case manager who provides support throughout their pregnancy and for up to two years after delivery.

Our program and case managers provide a support system for women, helping to alleviate any perceived concerns or stressors. Benefits of participating in Healthy Beginnings include educational health sessions, home visits, transportation to and from medical appointments or meetups, opportunities to connect with other participants, access to multivitamins, and referrals to other community agencies.

The program successfully operated as planned in 2023, maintaining full staffing throughout the year and managing the maximum caseload of eligible participants. There were no challenges or issues that arose during this period.

The program continued to operate successfully in 2024; however, we encountered a brief vacancy in the MCH supervisor role, which was later filled by promoting one of the care managers. We currently have one vacancy for a care manager and are actively looking for a health educator. Despite these changes, our caseload remains at an ideal level, and we are seeking additional eligible referrals. The program hosts a minimum of (7) educational meetings for its participants to further reinforce the topics learned while interacting with care managers. In addition, Healthy Beginnings is driven by an engaged Community Advisory Board of partners who share resources and services beneficial for our participants.
