What is it?
On December 1, 2023, more than 600,000 North Carolinians became eligible to get NC Medicaid under new eligibility rules, "Medicaid expansion." Under expansion, NC Medicaid covers people ages 19 through 64 years with higher incomes. Many North Carolinians who did not qualify for health coverage prior to expansion now do. Nearly half have already been automatically enrolled because they previously had limited benefits through Family Planning Medicaid and are now eligible for full Medicaid.
