Integrated Targeted Testing Services (ITTS)

Division of Public Health Staff at community outreach eventThe Integrated Targeted Testing Services (ITTS) program, established to combat the HIV pandemic and a syphilis outbreak that occurred in Guilford County in 1994 is grant-funded by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) Communicable Disease Branch to provide non-traditional STI prevention, testing, and treatment services to vulnerable populations. This initiative is a collaborative effort among the Guilford County Division of Public Health, NC DHHS Communicable Disease Branch, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with two community-based organizations: Triad Health Project (THP) and Piedmont Health Services and Sickle Cell Agency (PHSSCA).

 

Progress in 2024

The Guilford County ITTS team provided the following innovative testing and outreach services in 2024:Know your status HIV testing poster

  • Testing services in diverse outreach settings including college campuses, nightclubs, treatment centers, grocery stores, and other mobile clinics in the community.
  • Weekly walk-up mobile testing at both the Greensboro and High Point Health Department locations provided by the sexual health action group (SHAG) team, which saw an increased response in 2024.
  • Online promotion efforts utilizing geofencing and community centered advertising, which contributed to the rise in testing at walk-up sites.
  • Walk-in testing on Wednesdays at Triad Health Project, which sees a steady flow of clients.
  • Outreach agencies saw an increase in bulk condom requests, presenting a challenge maintaining stock and serving new condom sites.

Progress in 2025

The Guilford County Integrated Targeted Testing Services (ITTS) team maintained all innovative testing and outreach services in 2025, including:

  • Testing services in diverse outreach settings.
  • Weekly walk-up mobile testing at both the Greensboro and High Point Health Department locations.
  • Walk-in testing on Wednesdays at Triad Health Project in Greensboro.
  • Online promotion efforts to ensure knowledge of testing availability.  
  • Outreach agencies continued bulk condom distribution.

For the first three quarters of 2025 (January 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025), ITTS provided 2,147 HIV tests, 2,109 syphilis tests, and 2,152 chlamydia and gonorrhea tests.

In addition to maintaining these vital services, the Guilford County ITTS team also hosted the National HIV testing and short film experience and panel around youth sexual health on June 26, 2025, and in December 2025 hosted a World AIDS Day Observance that included panelists from NC A&T, NCDHHS, and a UNCG student.
