Description
The Expanded Testing Services (ETS) program offers HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis C testing for detainees in 30 local jails in North Carolina. Bringing education and testing services into the jails provides an opportunity to serve those who are at increased vulnerability for sexually transmitted infections and viral hepatitis, and otherwise may not have access to testing and referrals to medical care.
Progress in 2024
The expanded testing services (ETS) program in the Guilford County jails provides STI testing and counseling on weekdays and weekends to clients cycling through the justice system.
To address STI morbidity in both county jails in 2024:
- Guilford County Public Health and detention center staff worked together to ensure clients are receiving adequate treatment services.
- Regular meetings were held to share data and treatment updates and to develop a coordinated system for treating syphilis cases.
