Description
With bipartisan support from the NC General Assembly, North Carolina became the 40th state to expand Medicaid eligibility in December 2023. With federal support from the Affordable Care Act, adult North Carolina residents ages 19 through 64 who earn up to 138% of the federal poverty line may now be eligible. For a single individual that comes to earnings of about $1,730 per month for a single adult and about $2,970 per month for a family of three.
Medicaid expansion helps Guilford County residents who may be experiencing financial difficulties paying for health insurance coverage, getting much needed health care, including preventive care and the care for the management of chronic health conditions. For our most vulnerable residents, this can lead to earlier detection, diagnosis, and treatment of serious medical conditions like cancer and help protect them from significant out-of-pocket medical costs and potential medical debt.
