QuitlineNC provides free cessation services to any North Carolina resident who needs help quitting tobacco use. Quit Coaching is available in different forms, which can be used separately or together, to help any tobacco user give up tobacco*.
Scotland County Health Department refers clients to this program. The health department assures the QuitlineNC is promoted through PSAs to local radio stations and newspapers, social media, print ads. The health department partners with others to promote the Great American Smokeout.
In Scotland County, the health department refers adults and youth to the program and screen for tobacco use among all clients ages 12 and older.

Progress in 2023
In 2023, the Health Department screens participants of the Family Planning, Maternal Health, HIV and Pregnancy Counseling services for positive tobacco use and provides educational materials for QuitlineNC. There is data for Scotland County for persons utilizing QuitlineNC in 2023. During outreach activities, we also promoted QuitlineNC through educational materials and promotional items on our exhibit tables and were able to educate people about the benefits of quitting and provided other resources available.
SCHD provided nine social media posts promoting QuitlineNC in 2023. Ads were also purchased and placed in the Laurinburg Exchange reaching nearly 3,000 readers weekly along with an ad for QuitlineNC placed in the Regional (3 county) Partners in Progress Magazine 2021, 2022 and 2023 Editions. Our Healthy Communities funding also helped purchase radio ads promoting Quitline NC through Beasley Broadcast Media Group on 3 local stations. We also purchased ad space for QuitlineNC, Rx Awareness, and Family Planning with Health Innovations and Medical Village, two of our local pharmacies, to use on 30,000 Rx bags per pharmacy!
In addition, smoking cessation along with e-cigarettes/vaping were also discussed during several of our monthly radio programs on WLNC 95.1 FM and WEWO 92.5 FM in 2023, which allowed us to promote QuitlineNC as a resource for smoking/tobacco/vaping cessation.
Progress in 2024
In 2024, we continued to promote QuitlineNC and other smoking/tobacco cessation resources through a variety of ways - within the Health Department through our Family Planning, Maternal Health, HIV, and Pregnancy Counseling services, Health Education on social media, through paid ads, at outreach events, in written articles in our local newspaper, The Laurinburg Exchange, and promoted during programs on our local radio stations WLNC 95.1 FM and WEWO 92.5 FM. (See Progress 2023 for details). According to data from the Quitline NC December 2024 Report, #83 Scotland County residents utilized the service in 2024.
