Program Summary
The Interagency Liaison serves as the primary school system contact for the county government’s local system of care. The Liaison collaborates with and provides technical assistance to Dept. Of Juvenile Services, Department of Social Services, SMCHD, Pyramid, SMC Sherriff's Dept, and Local Care Team, to work on school attendance and achievement with students; provides educational support in Juvenile Court cases. Additionally, the Interagency Liaison attends IEP meetings, expulsion hearings, and parent/teacher conferences, as requested by families, to ensure students stay on track for high school completion.
Target Population
The Liaison works with multiple agencies and several schools. Those youth/families that are in 8th grade and above who include, but are not limited to, the following: habitual truancy, repeating the 9th grade, involvement with DJS, parental incarceration, etc. These are all factors that could prevent the youth from high school completion. The youth and families will be identified from DJS, DSS, and the school system. Specifically, they will be selected through a staffing process. This process would allow the Liaison to discuss with the team members the specifics of the youth and their situation and to keep the lines of communication open concerning the youth’s academic growth.
