Description
With 2018 being the first year of implementation of the ITTS program a considerable amount of time was used to set up valuable partnerships to provide testing. During this first year, the ITTS Coordinator received feedback as to why an individual was not interested in getting tested which included the amount of time to get results back, the individual having a fear of needles, or individuals who had severely damaged veins due to being an intravenous drug user. The feedback lead the ITTS Coordinator to submit an application and receive the proper training to provide rapid testing by the end of 2018. Rapid testing allows an individual to have a finger prick and have initial results available within 20 minutes. Rapid testing lead to an increase in the number of individuals who were tested. In 2020 the ITTS program was affected by COVID-19 and the changes in how businesses were operating. This led to a decrease in individuals getting tested and would continue until 2022 when the ITTS Coordinator was able to return to previous testing sites pending COVID-19 outbreaks.
What has helped to increase the number of individuals getting tested over the past 5 years is going to where the individual is and rapid testing. With transportation being an issue in Beaufort County many individuals that have been tested were at the testing site for one appointment and opted into getting tested by the ITTS Coordinator while there. The individual would leave knowing their test results due to the rapid testing. The primary goal of the Integrated Targeted Testing Services (ITTS), project is to provide HIV counseling, testing and referral (CTR), services to high-risk "hard to reach" key priority groups in targeted settings. The key priority groups are defined as racial and ethnic minorities, men who have sex with men of all races and ethnicities, people who inject drugs, commercial sex workers, and transgender persons.

The goal of this program is to prevent and control the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted disease. This testing is confidential and at no cost to the client. This allows those in diverse settings access to testing where otherwise might not be able to get tested. If tests return positive, clients are successfully linked with medical care and other services by providing referrals to local providers or coordinators.
Since 2018 the ITTS Coordinator has partnered with various businesses in Beaufort County, some on a continuous basis and others for one specific event. These partners include Agape Health Services, Beaufort County Detention Center, PORT Health, Turnage Theatre, and Washington Housing Authority.
Progress in 2022-2023
The ITTS Coordinator partnered with ekiM for Change to provide confirmatory testing for their participants whose rapid tests came back positive. The ITTS Coordinator also worked with the Beaufort County Health Department's director of nursing and nurse supervisor to become a PrEP provider. A new ITTS Coordinator was hired, fully trained, and continued to provide program activities while evaluating how to expand.
