Naloxone Distribution

Description

Narcan kits are supplied to the community from the Health Department. These kits contain two 4 mg Nasal Narcan dispensers, a CPR shield, gloves, and a Narcan brochure. Narcan is the only FDA-approved form of Naloxone for emergency treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose. It breaks down the opioid and excretes it allowing respiration to return. Narcan kits are available to anyone residing in Wayne County.

  • Wayne County Sheriff's Department
  • Goldsboro Police Department
  • Mt. Olive Police Department
  • Goldsboro-Wayne Transportation Authority
  • Dixon Social Interactive Services
  • Goldsboro Comprehensive Treatment Center

Narcan kits are supplied to the community by the Health Department. In the past Narcan Trainings were also offered and conducted with a diverse population of 134 first responders, transit authorities, local agencies, businesses, and community members. 

Funding Solutions: These funding opportunities allow us to help community members who are facing substance abuse

EastPointe:

  • Funding opportunity is a yearly grant for $50,000 that allows the Wayne County Health Department to be a resource for overdose referrals, education, and Narcan distributor.

Progress in 2023

In 2023, through the pharmacy at the health department and community Narcan training, there were a total number of Naloxone doses distributed were 171 to our distribution sites and Wayne County residents.
