What We Do
The Community Shelter of Union County (CSUC) is a non-profit organization in Union County. CSUC is the only homeless shelter in Union County that is open year-round and houses men, women, and families (guidestar.org/profile/58-2121860).
Who We Serve
Men, women, and families in need of shelter.
How We Impact
The CSUC case manager collaborates with each resident in the shelter on rehousing and self-sufficiency goals. Most clients are ready to move out of the shelter and into housing within 38-75 days (guidestar.org/profile/58-2121860).
Progress in 2024
We’ve seen an increase in emergency shelter requests due to rising rental costs, stagnant wages, and a lack of affordable housing options. Many households face sudden evictions or lease non-renewals, often with little notice. We continue to see a mix of single adults and families, but there has been a rise in seniors and individuals on fixed incomes who can no longer afford market rents. Additionally, the shelter waitlist remains long, highlighting the gap between available resources and the growing need.
