ABC Afterschool Program

What We Do

ABC Afterschool program was founded with the mission to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

We do this by deliberately locating our facilities in neighborhoods with significant poverty, limited community resources and low education levels. We handpick our staff, choosing only the most compassionate, highly-educated professionals that hold the unwavering belief that our members' futures should never be determined by their zip code or the color of their skin. To be an ABC Club kid is to relish in supportive, supervised out-of-school time programs designed to address the unique needs of our members.

Who We Serve

Today, we serve more than 2,200 youth ages 5-19 yearly. We touch the lives of over 500 Club members daily in 3 locations within our region:

  • ABC North
  • ABC South
  • ABC East

Overall key demographics of ABC participants include:

  • Household Income: 82% of families served have a total household income of less than $35k: 34% <$10k; 11% <$15k; 24% <$25k; 13% <$35k; 8% <$50k; 10% <$75k
  • Ethnicity: African-American 44%; Caucasian 21%; Hispanic/Latino 27%; Multi-Racial 5%; Asian/Pacific Islander 2%; and Native American 1%
  • Family Make-up: Single Parent 31%; Mother & Father 26%; Parent/Stepparent 7%; Grandparent/Other Relative 6%; and Foster/Other 3%; Unknown 27%
  • Age Served: Ages 5-10, 49%; Ages 11-14, 42%; and Ages 15-19, 9%

At ABC, we believe no child should be denied the opportunity to participate in program. Our ABC North site is a traditional neighborhood site and is easily accessible for neighborhood children. Transportation is provided for our members who otherwise would not be able to participate in our program, including daily pick-ups from local schools, battered women's shelters and homeless shelters. Our other two sites are located within the public schools.

How We Impact

Every day, 15 million kids nationwide (1 out of 3) leave school with no place to go, putting them at risk of being unsupervised, unguided and unsafe. During the summer, an alarming 43 million (3 out of 4) American kids lack access to summer learning programs, increasing their risk of learning loss and putting them at a disadvantage before the school year starts.

ABC Afterschool programs are redefining the opportunity equation for kids by elevating the critical role of out-of-school time. What happens during these hours can significantly impact a child's path.
