What We Do
At their regular meeting on September 21, 2011, the board of the Queen Anne's County Community Partnerships for Children and Families (Partnership), our Local Management Board, approved the use of funds from Earned Reinvestment. The ultimate purpose of the request was to provide funds to establish a new Out-of- School Time Coordinator position who would work under the Board of Education within the Partnering for Youth Program. The amount of the request was $54,000.
The goal in forming this strategy was to develop a sustainable position who’s main focus is to assist in the coordination and development of contract requirements, and policies and procedures for operation of before and after school contracted and in-kind programs. The initiative to bring in the contractors started with a partnership with the Board of Education. A Request for Proposal (RFP) process to select program vendors for Queen Anne's County elementary and middle schools who don’t have grant funded programs but a need has was followed and Alphabest was hired as the Vendor. In order to sustain the program the LMB implemented a model in which the selected vendor could charge a fee for the program and a portion of the approved vendor’s gross profits would go back to the school and allow for the position to be sustained. They would also be required to provide scholarships to people who qualify based on income.
Story Behind the Curve
The participation in Alphabest continues to decline this year, and had low rates over the summer. This is speculated because of more students participating in Partnering for Youth and the high enrollment costs.
