What We Do
The Ohio State Fire Marshall’s Office reported 450 Home Fire Incidents, 15 Injuries, and 3 Deaths (Data from 2012-2016) in Marion County. To help combat these statistics the Red Cross in partnership with local Fire Departments, the Ohio State Fire Marshall’s 2 | P a g e Office, and other local agencies canvass at risk neighborhoods by going door-to-door distributing preparedness information, checking smoke alarms, and installing/replacing smoke alarms as needed. The initiative named, the Home Fire Campaign (HFC) is based on studies that have shown having a working smoke alarm in your home increases the chances of surviving a house fire by 50%. Our goal is to reduce home fire deaths and injuries by 25% by the year 2020. Since the program launched, the Red Cross has installed 775 free smoke alarms in 399 Marion County homes.
