The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that in the U.S. there are 20 million new STD infections each year at a cost to our healthcare system of nearly $16 billion in direct medical costs. STDs like HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and viral hepatitis are preventable. These infections can be identified in people at risk through appropriate testing. STDs are treatable, and some can be cured, reducing new infections.
