Why Is This Important?
Access to comprehensive, quality health care services is a basic human need for an individual to achieve and maintain health, prevent, and manage disease, and achieve health equity. Individuals without health insurance are less likely to have a primary care provider and may not be able to afford needed healthcare services or their medications. Not having insurance can also place an individual in the position of not getting prevenetative care and treatment for chronic illnesses.
What does it look like when you achieve this result?
When Brunswick County residents have increased access to health care, we anticipate seeing:
- An increase in life expectancy especially among vulnerable populations
- Increase in Medicaid enrollment
- Improved prenatal care
- Increase in health care providers accepting all patients
- Residents receive necessary care when and where they need it, in a manner they can understand
- Increase awareness about insurance options to ensure access to needed health care providers and services
