The Roanoke Valley Community Health Initiative was started in 2012 to combat obesity issues in the Roanoke Valley (Halifax & Northampton Counties). The mission of the RV-CHI is to promote healthy living and health access. The founding members of the RV-CHI had a vision that all Roanoke Valley families and individuals were empowered to lead healthy lifestyles.

The Roanoke Valley Community Health Initiative (RVCHI) comprised of various community organizations, partnered together to implement and support programs empowering the citizens of Halifax County to lead healthy lifestyles.  RVCHI provided fresh fruit and water to agencies hosting health fairs, supported community gardens, partnered with faith-based organizations and coordinated with local schools to promote physical activity.
