Description
The Risky Behaviors program was designed by the Alexander County Health Department in 2019 for students, and has been updated annually to be adapted to work for High School Students. This program is free of cost and includes a partnership between the Health Educator and Alexander County Schools to educate our young community on concerns including sexual health, mental health & counseling resources, alcohol-free, vape-free, and drug-free curriculum. The program was built off of the Clever Catch Science Education Balls & the Media Ready Program from the innovative Research & Training (iRT) of the NCDHHS.
We serve youth in Alexander County School System.
The Health Educator developed a Risky Behavior programs to be implemented in Alexander County Schools grades 9-12 through the 2023-2024 school year. Annual updates will be made to this program based on student and teacher evaluations. Alexander County Health Department worked with Alexander County Schools to implement this program.
Progress in 2024
The ACHD Health Educator continues to engage with the Alexander County School system to implement Risky Behaviors education. In Spring and Fall of 2024 the new health students (9th & 10th graders) of Alexander Central High School (ACHS) received the information & were given the opportunity for evaluation & feedback on the program. The program received positive reviews from students, and has been requested for Spring 2025 by the Health Coordinator of ACHS & for the Alexander Early College Students in 9th & 10th grade.
