Support pipeline for more diverse providers

Description

Live Well Wake works to increase opportunities for youth and to expand resources that are geared towards increasing the number of mental health providers from underrepresented backgrounds in Wake County.

Progress in 2023

HealthLit4Wake, a program within Wake County Health and Human Services released a community partner Mini-Grant Fund to fund community-based projects that aimed to increase health literacy and access to health education. Many of the mini grant projects focused on youth mental health. One community partner developed a youth COVID-19 awareness campaign that addressed the experiences of Wake County youth during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, Wake County expanded the work of the Youth Health Council, a group of dedicated high school students that work alongside WCHHS staff to address issues facing Wake County youth. Many of the projects that the youth worked on were around COVID-19, mental health, and suicide prevention.

Progress in 2024

In 2024, Wake County was awarded a Public Health Infrastructure Grant by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This grant works to strengthen the public health workforce by recruiting, retaining, and attracting diverse representation into the public health workforce (including healthcare, mental health, and community health roles).

In addition, Live Well Wake funded a mental health awareness campaign that was developed by Wake County's Youth Health Council to address youth mental health issues among teens within Wake County.
