Advocate for policy change to increase mental health prevention

Description

Live Well Wake advocates for policy change by identify needs within the community, suggesting recommendations, and sharing strategies with Wake County leadership including Municipal Managers, Mayors, Councilmembers, Department Directors, and County Commissioners. 

Progress in 2023

In 2023, Live Well Wake worked closely with political leaders through our Live Well Wake Action Team to advocate for increased mental health services within the county. 

Progress in 2024

In May of 2024, the HealthLit4Wake team within Wake County Health and Human Services partnered with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), Southeast Raleigh Promise, and Wake County Youth Health Council to release several campaign videos in both English and Spanish to advocate for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. As of February 2025, the videos have accumulated a total of 818,000 views on YouTube. In addition, the 988 lifeline commercials were played across television and movie theaters. 

In November of 2024, Wake County held its Behavioral Health Summit, bringing stakeholders and county leaders together to discuss behavioral health issues within the community. 

In addition, In December of 2024, Wake County launched its new Behavioral Health Department and appointed a Department Director to lead behavioral health initiatives for the county.
