Description
The Integrated Targeted Testing Services (ITTS) program, established to combat the HIV pandemic and a syphilis outbreak that occurred in Guilford County in 1994 is grant-funded by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) Communicable Disease Branch to provide non-traditional STI prevention, testing and treatment services to vulnerable populations. This initiative is a collaborative effort among the Guilford County Division of Public Health, NC DHHS Communicable Disease Branch, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with two community-based organizations: Triad Health Project (THP) and Piedmont Health Services and Sickle Cell Agency (PHSSCA).
Progress in 2024
The Guilford County ITTS team provided the following innovative testing and outreach services in 2024:
- Testing services in diverse outreach settings including college campuses, nightclubs, treatment centers, grocery stores, and other mobile clinics in the community.
- Weekly walk-up mobile testing at both the Greensboro and High Point Health Department locations provided by the sexual health action group (SHAG) team, which saw an increased response in 2024.
- Online promotion efforts utilizing geofencing and community centered advertising, which contributed to the rise in testing at walk-up sites.
- Walk-in testing on Wednesdays at Triad Health Project, which sees a steady flow of clients.
- Outreach agencies saw an increase in bulk condom requests, presenting a challenge maintaining stock and serving new condom sites.
