Community garden structures aim to increase access to healthy food options for communities in need as identified by the Better Together Montgomery core team. With consideration to rural communities and identified HMP (historically-marginalized population) communities, the gardens were placed in close proximity to ensure the community would have minimal barriers preventing their ability to obtain food from the gardens. 

Better Together Montgomery, along with community members worked to plant both spring and fall crops over the 2022 - 2023 time frame. To increase the knowledge of community members of all ages on the benefits of local grown produce, BTM partnered with local resources from the cooperative extension to teach courses on healthy eating and how to incorporate more healthy options into your diet. Plans were developed for educational courses for the Brutonville after-school program to educate students on gardening, maintaining the plants, and how to use the fruits and vegetables they grow themselves to prepare healthy meals. Community members have come together to care for the gardens with the help of Better Together Montgomery to learn, participate, enhance, and continue using the gardens for personal & community benefit.
