Harrison Family YMCA Health and Wellness Programs

What We Do

The Harrison Family YMCA Health and Wellness programs provide services and activities to improve the quality of life for all our citizens in our community.  These programs offer various opportunities to help prevent or decrease certain chronic diseases that may affect our citizens.  The goal is to strengthen the holistic individual-spirit, mind and body.  The Health and Wellness programs aim is to increase opportunities for all citizens to have access to programs that they can benefit from to live a healthier life.

Who We Serve

Collaboration is important and we know that "We are Stronger Together." We work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.  We connect with people of all ages and backgrounds to bridge the gaps in our community.  We have various programs for everyone to benefit from.  We have an "Enhance Fitness" program that focuses on older adults of all fitness levels.  We have a "Blood-Pressure Self-Monitoring" program for individuals living with high-blood pressure.  We also offer a "Walk with Ease" program that everyone can benefit from.  We want a healthy and strong community so we connect with individuals and community partners to make sure all our citizens have access to healthy choices. 

How We Impact

We work with civic organizations in our diverse community to provide opportunities and guidance to promote healthy lifestyles for all citizens through our "IMPACT" (we Inspire, Motivate, People through our Actions, Compassion and Teamwork).  We look to help all individuals live a thriving and healthy life beyond certain chronic illnesses.  We look to help older adults feel energized physically, mentally, and socially.  We work with individuals to help maintain and control high blood-pressure to minimize their risk of stroke or heart attack.  We want all citizens to live healthy and thriving lives, so we hope the programs we offer impact individuals to be confident about their ability to be physically active and that all citizens can improve their overall health in some way.

Progress in 2023

-Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program: 6 participants completed the program & 3 of the 6 completed an evaluation with 100% of them stating they made progress towards health and well-being goals as a result of participating in the program. A challenge was that interest and participation decreased over time.

-Enhance Fitness Program: 13 registered participants; 11 attended; and there was an average of 4 participants per session. 

-Walk with Ease Program: no additional follow up information regarding this program.
