Story Behind the Curve
FY22-
The program met consistently throughout the year even while schools were shut down following all Covid-19 safety precautions. Mentoring hours increased with field trips in the spring. The mentoring hours increased when the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted and youth were able to resume field trips in the spring. The story behind this increase from FY21 to FY22 is because more youth have needed mentoring services due to the effects of Covid. Youth were not able to socialize and learn due to school closures.
Partners
Throughout the year the program consistently partnered with: Caroline County Health Department, Chesapeake College,. Mid-Shore Behavioral Health, Wraparound MD, Federalsburg Lions Club Town of Denton, Shore United Health, Knights of Columbus, Caroline County Public Schools and Caroline County Council of Arts. The Caroline County Commissioners saw the value in the program and funding was added to their annual budget to support the program.
What Works
The group mentoring program has 8 mentors serving 40 youth. The program met consistently every week for 2 hours as scheduled. Field trips were enjoyed by both mentors and mentees and increased the number of mentoring hours beyond the normal scheduled program.
