Story Behind the Curve
FY22
This program has an excellent track record for youth remaining in the program. Many youth begin the program in elementary school and remain in the program through high school. Some youth have even remained after going to college and return to the program to peer mentor the youth. The mentees see the value of the program so they chose to remain the program longer than 6 months.
Partners
Throughout the year the program consistently partnered with: Caroline County Health Department, Chesapeake College,. Mid-Shore Behavioral Health, Wraparound MD, Federalsburg Lions Club Town of Denton, Shore United Health, Knights of Columbus, Caroline County Public Schools and Caroline County Council of Arts. The Caroline County Commissioners saw the value in the program and funding was added to their annual budget to support the program. The partners are what makes the program as successful as it is and the mentees want to remain in the program.
What Works
The relationship grows between mentors and mentees from year to year. These youth enjoy the round table discussions, speakers on various topics and field trips. The youth that have graduated from the program return as junior mentors as often as they can.
