FY23: While youth in the program are doing well overall, there are huge issues in our school-system related to attendance. Big factors (which are outside the control of this program) are overall neighborhood safety making some youth feel that walking to school is too dangerous, paired with a lack of available public transportation options if they don't choose to walk. The youth are engaged in many other ways but school attendance continues to be a struggle for many particularly now that virtual school is no longer an option (as this was a critical tool for connection and engagement for many of our youth during the pandemic). We are curently partnering with our school system to look at new mechanisms for addressing attendance at four schools with the highest rates of excessive absenteeism.
