Story Behind the Curve
FY25: HFY1: During HFY1, 100% or 6 of 6 youth/young adults who were working and/or in school at MST-EA entry were in school and/or working at discharge. Client 61 entered treatment with employment and starting their senior year of high school. At the time of discharge, the client had successfully graduated, was actively employed and had been preparing to start college in the fall. Client 62 was able to successfully graduate from high school during treatment and, at discharge, the client was actively engaging interviews and hiring processes while also doing work babysitting. Client 68 entered treatment in a nursing program and had completed the program, however, did not pursue this field. The client had disengaged from working during a portion of treatment, however, at the time of discharge, the client was working 2 jobs and had demonstrated the ability to maintain employment for a few months before discharge. Client 71 entered into treatment with employment and was still actively employed throughout treatment, and employment remained the main priority for the client during treatment, many times the client’s work schedule being a barrier to being able to meet. Client 73 was self-employed when coming into treatment and many times would have session during breaks at his employment. The client was able to maintain this job throughout treatment and at the time of discharge and gained some additional skills to help with employment during treatment (e.g. time management and scheduling, marketing resources). Client 79 was actively employed at the beginning of treatment and maintained that employment throughout treatment.
HFY2: During HFY2, 8 of 8, or 100% of youth/young adults who were working and/or in school at MST-EA entry were in school and/or working at discharge
FY25: During FY25, 14 of 14 or 100% of youth/young adults who were working and/or in school at MST-EA entry were in school and/or working at discharge.
In school and/or employed is defined as youth/young adult is attending school, a high school equivalency degree (GED) program, a vocational program, or is working at least part-time at client discharge as measured by school and/or work attendance records and client self-report.

What Works
MST-EA is a manualized treatment that is an adaptation of the evidence-based treatment, Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST). MST-EA treatment targets are achieved by changing how clients function in their natural settings (home, school, community), leveraging the client’s strengths, pulling in positive supports, and developing the client’s skills and resources to overcome barriers to success. Evidence-based interventions (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral interventions, motivational interviewing, affective education) are used to address treatment needs.
