Story Behind the Curve

Child support collections peaked in fiscal years 2020 and 2021 due to intercepting economic stimulus payments.  Since then, case counts and collections have trended downward, which is a nationwide trend within the broader child support program.

Prior to the pandemic, ORS had 86,161 cases at the end of federal fiscal year 2019 and collected $222,769,759, averaging $2,585 collected per case.  For federal fiscal year 2024, there were 76,309 cases and $196,565,212 was collected, reflecting an average collection per case of $2,575, indicating collections are remaining consistent.
