This indicator reports the crude and age adjusted rate of deaths due to suicide per 100,000 among North Carolina residents. Deaths by suicide are defined as having ICD–10 underlying cause-of-death codes X60–X84 or Y870.
Story Behind the Curve
The suicide death rate in our community remains higher than state and national averages, and recent data indicate an upward trend.
