Story Behind the Curve
The Onslow Overdose Death rate declined in 2025 and is the lowest rate since 2019. Possible reasons behind this decline includes an increase in Narcan accessibility and availability within the community leading to a decreased number overdose deaths; increased awareness and availability of treatment and recovery services leading to increased linkages to care; increased efforts to promote Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) within the Onslow County Jail and Onslow County Community Paramedic Programs; and, efforts by the County to increase treatment beds through the use of Opioid Settlement Funds reducing barriers to care.
