Using Michigan Death Certificates, opioid-related deaths are classfied as the number of people who died of a drug overdose and had opioids (including opium, heroin, natural/semi-synthetic opioids, methadone, synthetic opioids, or unspecified opioids) as a contributing cause.
Opioid-related deaths have been on the rise in Macomb County since 2013 and continue to rise each year.
