What is this about?
This indicator uses hospital records to track the number of people attending the Emergency Department with injuries resulting from an assault. It combines the hospital data with population figures to create a rate per 100,000 people to allow comparison over time despite fluctuations in the Island's population.
In 2022, 252 patients attended the Emergency Department with assault injuries. This equates to a rate of 225 attendances per 100,000 population. Since 2012, the rate has more than halved.
