What is this about?
This indicator tracks the change in average earnings in Jersey's construction and quarrying sector over time, taking into account the effect of inflation. It is presented as an index set at 100 in 2013 so that the change in the real value of earnings can be compared by allowing for inflation. The 2020 figures should be seen in the context of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the sector and inflation.
In 2020, average weekly earnings in the construction and quarrying sector were £820 per FTE. This represented an increase of 0.6% in average earnings, the lowest annual increase for this sector since 2010 and below the preceding 5-year average of 3.5% per year.
Taking into account the effect of inflation, this means that average earnings across the sector increased by 0.1% in real terms.
