What is this about?
In 2015, a major survey was undertaken to gather robust information about the prevalence and profile of disability in Jersey. Based on this survey, 14% of all Jersey residents living in private households are disabled as defined under the UK Equality Act 2010 definition of disability (this is that they have a physical or mental health condition or illness lasting or expected to last 12 months or more which impacts on their ability to carry out day-to-day activities a little or a lot). 26% of households in Jersey have a person living with a disability as defined under the UK Equality Act 2010.
41% of disabled respondents said they experienced difficulty in travelling around Jersey, with 31% saying some difficulty and 10% saying a lot. About one in six (17%) with a severe impairment said they had a lot of difficulty travelling around the Island.
