Story Behind the Curve
Fatalities of unrestrained occupants in a passenger vehicle are representative of the consequences of unsafe choices made while driving. Despite state efforts to encourage seat belt use, fatalities of occupants without seatbelts has been steadily on the rise and represents a dangerous trend in safety on the road.
Notes on Methodology
This number is pulled directly from the law enforcement crash reports. It is a measure of the number of people who had an available seatbelt, but did not use them, and subsequently died from a crash that state fiscal year.
