Story Behind the Curve
This indicator reflects the number of net new businesses established within the Unemployment Insurance program each year Statewide. This indicator could represent the establishment of a new business in Vermont or a new worker performing telework for an out of state company without a prior presence in the state. The number of new businesses has increased dramatically with the largest increase occurring from 2021 to 2022. 2023 levels of new establishment formations remain well above historical levels.
