About the Indicator

Healthy People 2030 sets data-driven national objectives to improve health and well-being over the next decade. It includes a national objective of reducing household food insecurity and hunger. Adults who are food insecure may be at an increased risk for a variety of negative health outcomes and health disparities.

This indicator measures the proportion of low-income older adults in California who are not able to afford enough food, as self-reported on the California Health Interview Survey. Reducing this proportion and reducing disparities is a key indicator of progress toward protecting against hunger.
