Story Behind the Curve

The number of truant or excessive absenteeism referrals decreased this year.  Referrals were up last year due to youth not logging in to virtual platforms during the covid-19 youth closure.  The youth that were referred to the Teen Court program for excessive absenteeism started attending school after their intake.

Partners

The partners that participated this year with the Teen Court Program for excessive absenteeism/truant youth are: Caroline County Circuit Court and Caroline County Public Schools.

What Works

In an effort to increase attendance the Caroline County Public School System is using the Teen Court Program as an alternative to charging the parent and getting the youth to attend school.

Data Discussion

88% of the youth that were referred to the Teen Court program for excessive absenteeism started attending school following their intake process and Caroline County Public Schools withdrew the referral.
