Story Behind the Curve

The decline in the number of excessive absenteeism/truant youth who actually go through the court process is due to youth attending school immediately following their intake process and Caroline County Public Schools withdrew the referrals.

Partners

The partners that participated this year with the Teen Court Program for Excessive Absenteeism/Truant youth are:  Caroline County Circuit Court and Caroline County Public Schools.

What Works

Success of the Teen Court Program is shown in the withdrawal of 88% of the referrals by Caroline County Public Schools because youth began attending school.

Data Discussion

In FY21 referrals from Caroline County Public Schools increased due to youth refusing to login to their virtual platforms during the Covid-19 school closure.   When youth returned to in person learning the number of referrals for excessive absenteeism/truant decreased. 7 out of the 8 youth referred to the Teen Court Program for excessive absenteeism started to attend school after their intake process and referrals were withdrawn by Caroline County Public Schools.  1 youth went through the Teen Court process.
