Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that can infect both men and women. It can cause infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat. It is a very common infection, especially among young people ages 15-24 years.
What Works
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screening for chlamydia and gonorrhea in sexually active women age 24 years or younger. In sexually active women age 25 years or older, USPSTF recommends screening only if there’s an increased risk of infection.
