Story Behind the Curve

Substance Abuse, especially Opioid Use and Abuse, is a large problem in Surry County.  In 2019 we began providing more education around opioids and other illegal substances in the middle schools and high schools.  Once COVID-19 hit in 2020 our efforts were put on pause and we have not transitioned back into opioid education up to this point.  We hope to start incorporating more opioid education into our schools in 2022.

Partners

The health department partnered with Mt. Airy City Schools to bring opioid education to the middle and high school.

What Works

Since 2019 was the last time opioid education was implemented, it's hard to say what change has occurred in the meantime.  We plan to re-vamp the material and incorporate more activities.

Action Plan

We plan to provide more opioid education during the 2022/2023 school year.
