Senior volunteers participating in our Foster Grandparent program work with children in local schools, day care centers, and Head Start programs. Foster Grandparents play games, talk, listen, read and eat together with individual children, all while supporting teachers and child care providers. In return, eligible volunteers receive a stiped of $3 per hour, plus transportation and mileage reimbursement. Data indicates the number of seniors and people with disabilities who are able to maintain an independent living situation.
The Foster Grandparent program is offered through AmeriCorps Senior Volunteers. The Foster Grandparent program provides an opportunity for older men and women to interact with children through active involvement at locations such as nonprofit day care centers, Head Start, state-supported facilities, public and private schools, and home settings. The "grandparents" serve youth with exceptional and special needs. Eligible volunteers may receive a stiped at the rate of $3 per hour, as well as transportation or mileage reimbursement.
