Story Behind the Curve
Several factors may contribute to obesity rates in a community - education, poverty levels, access to healthier food options, national inflation, etc. Lee County is a largely rural county with an average income less than the rest of North Carolina and a poverty level higher than the rest of the state.
Partners
Christians United Outreach Center, Bread of Life, the Salvation Army as well as other private religious organizations/churches are local food banks that serve the local population. The LCHD works to educate residents about nutrition through programs such as WIC, Cooking Matters,nd general outreach including the importance of physical activity.
