[How Much or How Well] What's Hurting What We Do? These are the negative forces at work in our strategy/program that influence how much we do or how well we do it.

  • Often times the lack of being able to provide info to students prior to them starting to use tobacco
  • Students "checking out" during tobacco presentations
  • E-cigarettes are so popular, hearing that students as young as 3rd grade are vaping at school, parents are buying vape products for children that aren't their own, etc 

What Works to Do Better?

The following actions have been identified by our Healthy for Life Action Team, community members, and stakeholders as ideas for what can work for this performance measure to make a difference on this performance measure. 

(A) Actions and Approaches Identified by Our Team These are actions and approaches that we think can make a difference for this performance measure.

  • Partner with JCPS to get information to students
  • Partner with Mountain Projects to use the AVOID Vaping evidence supported curriculum
  • Work with outside youth agencies such as HIGHTS, Hawthorn, and Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau

(B) No-cost and Low-cost Ideas Identified by Our Team These are no-cost and low-cost actions and approaches that we think can make a difference for this performance measure.

  • AVOID Vaping curriculum is free for us to utilize through Mountain Projects
  • Campaigns are free within the school system if we use our own paper, etc

(C) What your customers think would work to do better These are actions and approaches that our customers think can make a difference for this performance measure.

  • Having education be peer supported and provided so it isn't coming from uncool adults
  • Education with discussion and interaction - not just lecturing

  • Reaching out to more students about doing peer education
